Brandy Performs to an Almost Empty Stadium



It was a big humiliation for American star, Brandy in South Africa at the weekend when she performed to just 40 people in a 90,000 capacity FNB Stadium at the Mandela Sports and Culture Day in South Africa.

President Obama toured Robben Island, the jail Nelson Mandela was kept in for 18 years. He said he and his family are ''deeply humbled'' to visit the prison once inhabited by Mandela. He signed the visitors book, spent some time in the cell once inhabited by Mandela and visited the quarry where prisoners were required to labour. Robben Island which was once a prison house were resistance leaders were once kept is now a museum. More pictures after the cut.

Nelson Mandela on Life Support



Anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela was on life support in a Pretoria hospital late Wednesday, said an official who had been briefed in detail on his condition.

Considered the founding father of South Africa's democracy, Mandela, 94, has been hospitalized since June 8 for a recurring lung infection.

South Africans Worry About Mandela and His Legacy



South Africans reacted with concern Sunday when they learned that Nelson Mandela's condition had worsened to critical, and while some said they hope the former president and national hero recovers, they also said they are tired of the circus surrounding his illness.

"He's old, he's lived a great life, they should just let him go," said Ronelle Du Toit, 27, branch administrator at a property company in Johannesburg. "Stop anticipating and asking for prayers to keep him alive. He's 94 – how many people live to 94?"

Madiba: Nelson Mandela Back in Hospital



South Africa's first post-apartheid leader is said to be in serious but stable health condition. The incumbent president, Jacob Zuma announced he had been taken to hospital due to lung infection.

A statement from President Jacob Zuma's office said Mandela had a recurrence of the illness in the last few days and was transferred to a Pretoria hospital after his condition deteriorated at about 1.30am on Saturday.
The statement said Mandela, who is 94 years old, was in a serious but stable condition and receiving expert medical care.
