A resident of the area alleged that the herdsmen had few days ago raped some young girls and middle-aged women and robbed motorists along Adani-Nsukka highway of their valuables and cash.
"We see what has been happening in the community as an attempt to chase us out of our fatherland," said the resident, who insisted on being anonymous.

He said but for the quick intervention of the police, the indigenes had started preparing for a showdown to
chase the herdsmen out of the area. It was gathered that in quick response to the development, the Area Commander, Nsukka Police Area Command, Rose-Armson Haladu, mobilised forces and fortified the area.
The commander had moved the Armoured Personnel Carrier, a team of anti-robbery policemen and other police patrol vans to Adani community to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

In his reaction, the Chairman of the local government area, Mr. Cornel Onwubuya, said on the telephone that Fulani herdsmen had always been the problem of Adani community for a very long time.
